AATU (Tianjin University Research Institute of Architectural Design and Urban Planning) recently won an international competition to design the new Transportation & Industrial Park for Luoniushan, a well-known food-processing company in China.
Located in Sanya in the Hainan Province, the new park will include the company's headquarters, industrial warehouses, serviced apartments, a tourism and exhibition center, and more.
Construction of the park is expected to begin this year.

Project description:
"The design reflects the aims of Luoniushan, a highly popular company in Hainan, to centralise a safe and stable chain of food processing whilst generating a new development model for the company in the future. With the mantra 'from field to kitchen,' the design incorporates warehouses, offices, serviced apartments, an exhibition center, a tourism center and a company headquarters to bring together industrial processes and a comprehensive range of management buildings with in a single 1.7km by 0.4km site."
"The design decision to divide up the site was made early on. Transport and Industry warehouses occupy the flatter western area whilst the comprehensive ‘front of house’ services (such as the Tourism Organization Service Center, National Food Exhibition and Trade Center and the Headquarters building) occupy the hillier central and eastern areas."
"The warehouses are based on a standardized modular design and provide a double -‐ banked axis through the site from west to east. As the axis extends to the east, it meanders around three defined landscape nodes to organise the forms and orientation of the eastern buildings.
The design team sought to supply a high density of warehouse within the narrow site. By incorporating the gentle slope in the west into the design, the team were able to resourcefully use the limited land to provide two floors of storage and loading space within a single footprint."
"The Hainan Highway to the south of the site provides easy road access to both the east and west entrances of the park. The west entrance is reserved as the main trade entrance to the industrial park for the loading of transportation vehicles.
The three landscape nodes are developed into a central landscaping scheme (coined the 'one valley, four rivers' or 'green valley' scheme) to further enforce the separation of the two entities as well as provide valuable shade and outdoor space. Balconies on the eastern buildings further aid this."
"The company headquarters building stands proudly in the center of the exterior space, overseeing all aspects of the 42 -‐ hectare multifunctional park.
Designed with the company’s future development in mind, environmental efforts including low -‐ carbon materials, natural ventilation, an underground water cycle and solar energy promote the sustainability of this flagship park for the future."
