Purpose

Advanced study in any area of architectural investigation which will
effectively contribute to the knowledge, teaching or practice of the art
and science of architecture. The proposed investigation is to result in a
final written work, design project, research paper or other form of
presentation.

Award

Grant(s) of up to $30,000. Typically the full award is made for a single
project; however, the jury reserves the right to divide the award between
proposals. Total amount subject to change.

Eligibility

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen engaged in the profession of architecture
or a related field and have a professional background more advanced than
five years of architectural training or its equivalent.

Submission Requirements

Provide 12 copies of the following:

  • A cover page with full contact information, project title (optional) and a 25-50 word abstract of proposed project
  • Description of project in 8.5 x 11 (or A4) organized as follows:
    • Background Information on the project
    • Objective of Study
    • Method and Scope of Work
    • Submitter’s Curriculum Vitae
    • Letters of Recommendation: Three letters of recommendation in support of the proposed study and attesting to the applicant’s capability. Include copies of the letters with the submission; letters need not be sealed as they are to be copied and included with the 12 copies of the submission.

Additionally:

  • Supporting materials may be submitted but are not required. Submit only one copy of supporting materials.
  • Provide proof of a matching grant or funds if such funding is critical to the submission.
  • A $45 entry fee paid payable to the Center for Architecture Foundation
  • If desired, enclose a self-addressed and stamped envelope for the return of the supporting materials; the 12 copies of the application will not be returned
