The design competition program called fort the development of a Backcountry Ski Patrol/Emergency services building to be located above 9,000 feet in the Rocky Mountains in the western U.S.  The 11,300 square foot facility employed a range of sustainable building technologies and passive energy generation.

Project Description
The Intial siting and planning derived from a need to have visual ownership of the valley and the need of a secrue place to land and take off for the helicopter. The program catagories (Alanche control , Emergency service, Ski Patrol Office, & vehicle Storage) have an assending squarefoot requirement, and a subsequent unique proportion to one another. Thus a sequentail ordering system came about that takes advantages of views and the southern sky for daylighting. The Project utilizes both passive and active environmental controls and seeks to provide a water retention system to provide fresh drinking water. To most effectively heat the spaces, programatic sub elements are kept in smaller rooms and larger spaces are well insulated.
