The American Institute of Architects announced on Twitter today that Denise Scott Brown, along with her husband Robert Venturi, have won the 2016 AIA Gold Medal. Voted on annually, the AIA Gold Medal is regarded as the profession's highest honor. The medal honors an individual's exceptional body of work that has made a lasting impact on architectural practice and theory.

Read on for more.

Scott Brown, who was snubbed of the 1991 Pritzker Prize when Venturi was named as the only laureate, is the second female recipient of the AIA Gold Medal. The first woman to receive it was Julia Morgan, who posthumously won the 2014 medal  — 56 years after her death.
