The Mendoza Art District Project recently shared with us the results of their International Crowdsourcing Competition. Allowing the global design community to contribute their ideas and paying tribute to Argentinian wine-making culture, the MAD Project is all about a strong sense of community.
In Stage One, participants submitted designs for a restaurant and a meeting place, with an artwork installation for both venues. Five finalists moved on to Stage Two, where they crowdsourced ideas for their final proposals.
The jury then selected two winning entries:
- "MADDAM" by Vicens+Ramos (Spain) and Juan Carlos Alé+José María Silvestro (Mendoza, Argentina) - winner of the Meeting place project
- "Entrevides" by MMIT Architects (Cantabria, Spain) - winner of the Restaurant project
Each winner received US$10,000.
Have a look at each project below.
"The premiere edition of MAD project presented 1782 online registered users, 50 proposals by architecture firms worldwide, 10 finalists from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Spain, England and Mexico and two winning projects that accurately conveyed the iconic and disruptive element that the initial call aimed for."
"The winners successfully managed the challenge to operate in an urban area and a rural area following the guidelines of sustainability, constructability and innovation while incorporating the principles of 'Crowd' or bank of ideas available to contestants on the website. The mentioned guidelines stemmed from a concept that merged the five senses, the four seasons and the four elements present in nature (S5+4E+4E)."
