Semi-Finalists Announced for 2009 I. Don Terner Prize

Fourteen semi-finalists have been chosen for the I. Donald Terner Prize. The semi-finalists will be narrowed down to six finalists in January 2009 and a first-prize winner will be announced in March 2009.
Semi-finalists were chosen from 53 applications from over 21 states. Most of the applicants, 45 percent, were from the West, while 22.8 percent were from the East. Meanwhile, 11.3 percent of applicants were from the Southwest, 13.3 from the Southeast and 7.6 from the Midwest.
The award recognizes successful and innovative affordable housing projects and their leadership teams. The award honors Donald Terner’s vision and principles to the planning, design and development professions as well as to public officials, community representatives, housing activists, and government and private funders by identifying outstanding best practices in the field. Finalists receive $5000 leadership stipends and the first-prize winner will be given $25,000.
