Konyk has been announced the winner of the Supima Design Challenge with their entry “flattened field”.
Commissioned by Supima, the Pima long staple cotton growers association of America, BOFFO and Building Fashion the Supima Field Design Challenge was a competition to design an outdoor event space under the High Line at adjacent to the Neil Denari Architect designed HL23 for the developer Alf Naman.
The concept behind flattened field is an abstract plane of the botanical profiles of pima cotton rendered at various scales and at various stages of the cotton plant’s growth and development.
A super-imposed layering of lines and tonal gradations, flattened field is a walkable mural, an intense field of cotton graffiti; a temporary occupation beneath the emerging permanence of the High Line. Fashion and Design related events are programmed for the flattened field’s two-month existence, culminating in a “harvest” during Fashion Week in September 2010.
