Talking about his trip to China, Philip Turner commented:

'Beijing is the capital of the fastest ever growing country and has become in recent years an experimental blank canvas for a surge of international architects. The pace, ambition and excess of so many new buildings has changed the face of the city in an alarmingly short space of time. I was honored to receive second prize in the KPF/AF traveling scholarship awards which has allowed me to closely observe the social and architectural intricacies of this fascinating city in flux.’
