The American Institute of Architect New York Chapter’s annual Design Awards Program recognizes outstanding architectural design by New York City architects and also honors exemplary work in New York City done by architects from around the globe. The purpose of the awards program is to honor the architects, clients, and consultants who work together to achieve design excellence. Now in its 30th year, the AIANY Design Awards honors exemplary work in four categories: Architecture, Interiors, Urban Design, and Un-built Work.


Categories and Eligibility

The four categories for AIA New York Chapter Design Awards are

* Architecture
* Interiors
* Urban Design
* Un-Built Work

Work submitted in the Architecture and Interiors categories must be completed. In the Urban Design Category, work may be in any state of process or completion.

The Un-Built Work category recognizes conceptual work, including but not limited to landscape design, land art, research, architectural objects and installations. Projects undertaken for academic credit are not eligible. All Un-Built projects must have a commission. Responses to competitions will be considered.

Architecture located anywhere in the world designed by AIA New York members or by registered architects practicing in New York City, and architecture located in New York City designed by registered architects practicing anywhere in the world is eligible. Associate AIA members may submit in the Urban Design and Un-built Work categories only.

Architecture and Interiors must have been completed, and Urban Design and Un-built Work must have been initiated, after 1 January 2006.

Online submissions will close at 5:00 pm on Friday, February 4, EST. Any submission that includes the name(s) of the entrant or design team, or those that otherwise do not meet the stated requirements will be disqualified without reconsideration.

Submissions will remain open until February 4, 2011 at 5pm. The Design Awards Jury will convene on March 1, and winners will be announced at 6pm on March 1 at the 2011 Design Awards Jury Symposium at the Center for Architecture (536 LaGuardia Place, NYC, 10012, aiany.org). On April 12, winners will be honored at the 2011 Design Awards Luncheon at Cipriani Wall Street. The Design Awards exhibition will open at the Center for Architecture on April 14 at 6pm, and remain on view until June 25.
