On the 3rd of February “O’Gorod” has launched their sixth international design competition of landscape, architectural and art - objects for the territory of Alexandra’s Garden “Alexandrovskiy Sad” in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. Seeking an innovative design proposal that can answer unique cultural identity of the Garden the competition is inviting students, young architects and designers to find a solution which can be implemented in the heritage site and specific landscape space on the edge of dense urban structure.
The festival is held in three stages: the competition stage, the educational stage and the self-implementation stage. The competition stage is a call for ideas to reframe abandoned green space in the centre of industrial city with 1.5 million inhabitants. Competition Commission chooses only 10 finalists for implementation during the festival. The Educational stage “Pochva” is divided into 2 sub-stages: lecture course and multiple workshops. Lecturers are invited and facilitated by the generous cooperation of Delegation of the European Union to Russia. Workshops are focused on fifinding urban design solutions and implementation of such projects for several organizations in Nizhny Novgorod.
During the Implementation stage the finalists are invited to come to the site and build their object together with the festival team. All the materials and instruments are provided by the organizer. Apart from the pleasure of realization of their ideas, teams and guests will have an opportunity to take part in diversified event program: thematic music concerts, parties, lectures, conducted as an important part of the festival. One of the key tasks for the participants is the creation of projects which collectively should form a potential model for the future development of the “Alexandrovskiy Sad”. *Architectural Festival "O'Gorod" (“Garden” or “Oh, the City”) takes place on various locations in Nizhny Novgorod since 2009. During six years of carrying out of festival more than 70 objects have been created and many of those are presently in use.
