Register/Submit Deadline:  Saturday, Apr 25, 20096:55 AMEDT

The Doctoral Colloquium in IASDR 2009 is a special forum in which Ph.D. students and candidates meet with other doctoral students and internationally renowned researchers and practitioners in the field of Design to discuss and get feedback on their work-in-progress of the thesis. The colloquium committee will select approximately 10 participants who will be required to give short presentations which will be followed by in-depth discussion with the panelists.

We welcome applicants from a broad range of research areas in Design who have progressed in their research enough to have preliminary research outcomes with a structured proposal idea, but have not reached to the stage of defending their dissertation. We hope that this requirement will help the selected doctoral students who present their work in the Doctoral Colloquium gaining full advantages of accommodating valuable inputs in their dissertation progress.

Submissions should be no longer than 4 pages, including a 100-word long abstract and a description of the work-in-progress with references. In addition to this 4-page paper, applicants must include the followings: 1) a paragraph of what you hope to get from attending the Doctoral Colloquium, 2) your curriculum vitae, and 3) your advisor’s letter confirming your status of the doctoral program progress.

The paper must clearly state the followings:
The original key idea of the thesis
The problem domain addressed for the thesis
A brief overview of related work
The research goal and the methodological approach
Preliminary research outcomes
The future direction of how to carry out the research
