SPRING ISSUE THEME: 'PROCESS' CALL FOR PAPERS
FORWARD 112 will explore the design process. Designers often look outside our own profession to technology, literature, culture, science and engineering to find inspiration. We invent, innovate, and challenge the status quo. In this issue of Forward we would like to understand the possibilities for discovery. We will explore how designers balance intuitive inspiration and rational analysis, how we recognize patterns and points of connection. FORWARD 112 will include architectural, artistic, and scientific discussions as well as historical and critical analyses. Topics can consider scales from environmental explorations, urban approaches, buildings, façades, and details. Project-specific discussions should bridge the practical and abstract by describing the conceptual framework and how it translates into a project’s planning, form and details. Research, as well as artistic and scientific discussions may move between a variety of discourses including contemporary art, journalism, history, economics, politics and culture.
