Newport Visitors Center Design Competition

INTRODUCTION


Thank you for your interest in the Newport Design Center Design Competition.

Attached to this email is a Registration Form for the Competition. There is no fee for registering for the competition.  Please complete this form and email it back to:

Once the registration form is received, you will be sent a link, login name and password to access the Design Competition’s FTP site.

The FTP site includes drawings of the existing Visitors Center in CAD, TIFF and PDF format as well as photographs of the interior and exterior of the Visitors Center.

The FTP site also includes a folder of printed materials in PDF format that include the rules for the design competition, the schedule, the existing space program, the planned / future space program and design goals. All participants are encouraged to go to the Visitors Center and see firsthand the layout of the space and how the Center functions during the summer prime time for visitors.

Cash Prizes will be awarded in three categories –

Best Interior Design Solution     – First Prize     $2,000 + Certificate
– Second Prize     $1,000 + Certificate
– Honorable Mention - Certificate

Best Exterior Design Solution    – First Prize     $1,000 + Certificate
– Second Prize     $500 + Certificate
– Honorable Mention - Certificate

Best Use of Technology Throughout     – First Prize     $1,000 + Certificate
– Second Prize     $500 + Certificate
– Honorable Mention - Certificate

Winning Designs will be published on the “Go Newport” website as well as in other are news journals.  A reception is planned for the end of the competition and all participants will be invited to attend and view all design submissions.

All design proposals will be submitted electronically and all submissions will become the sole property of the Newport & Bristol County Convention and Visitor’s Center Bureau (VCB). The submissions will be judged by a committee from Newport and the VCB.


Images from the Design Competition will be used in Fund Raising efforts that will follow the competition. Successful fund raising will be needed to execute the renovation and redesign of the Visitors Center.

The renovations and redesign may proceed in phases depending on the funding availability. Since funding is not in place at this time, there is no guarantee or offer of ongoing design services to the entrants and participants of the design competition.

Participants will not communicate directly with the staff or board members of the Newport & Bristol County Convention and Visitor’s Center Bureau (VCB).

Any direct communication by a participant or members of their firm regarding the competition with the Staff or Board members of VCB will disqualify the entrant’s proposal for consideration of any of the prizes to be awarded.
