This competition is directed to the notion that a sustainable future must incorporate the rejuvenation of our existing buildings and neighborhoods. The model selected to represent this effort for the 2009 Natural Design Competition is the Gateway to Dudley Square: Parcels 8, 9, & 10 in Roxbury, Massachusetts. Entrants are asked to develop a master plan of all three parcels including informed design guidelines for the areas in and around the site as well as a more fully detailed design for one of the parcels chosen by the team.

Competition teams should incorporate LEED strategies to create a unique and integrated urban design with a focus on social equity and connections to the surrounding neighborhood. This project will utilize the LEED for New Construction rating system (version 2.2) and should be designed to achieve LEED Gold as a minimum certification.
