A survival pod is an essential piece of Greenpeace equipment. Our survival pods are used to occupy ships, oil rigs, ports and other strategic locations as we take non-violent direct action against environmental threats.
A pod can keep a small team of activists warm and dry as they face extreme weather and violent opposition like water cannons and projectiles during an action. With communications equipment, food supplies and water all inside the pod, we can stay attached to a ship’s anchor chain for weeks at a time.
Over the past 15 years, our two previous survival pods were used in direct actions all around the world. Sadly, during police intervention our first and then our second pod was impounded, and now we have an urgent need to build a new pod.
This year, with the Arctic at the forefront of our work, a survival pod is more important than ever before. The Arctic is facing critical threats as oil companies seek to take advantage of the melting summer sea ice to rush in and drill for oil in this fragile environment.
We must stand up to those who would destroy the Arctic, no matter their size. A new pod means we will be prepared to operate safely and effectively in the harsh environment of the Arctic – and anywhere else in the world we are needed.
Help make the survival pod the icon it deserves to be. Design the paint job, and see your work hanging off the side of an oil rig!
