The Flaminio Neighbourhood in Rome is slated to become the new home of the City of Science.
The international design competition for the development of master plan organised by CDP Investimenti Sgr, together with the agreement reached with the City Government, represent an intention to approach the rehabilitation and development of an important part of the city of Rome, already witness to an intense process of transformation. Situated at the edge of the historic city, the 5 hectare competition site is home to important works of architecture from the twentieth century (the Foro Italico, Olympic Village, Parco della Musica, MAXXI Museum). They describe the context that serves as the backdrop for the construction of a new part of the city. The competition, organised in two phases, calls for the design of residential space, commercial structures and public spaces in the area slated to become the new home of the City of Science. The winning project will be chosen from the work submitted by six selected finalists. The project is the fruit of a collaboration between the Cassa Depositi and Prestiti Investimenti Sgr, the owner of the site, and the City of Rome, responsible for the start-up and management of an important process of participation that actively involves and listens to the requests of local citizens.
