After nearly a year’s worth of work, Mayor Donnalee Lozeau and the Nashua International Design Competition Jury announce the release of the Call for Entries for the design competition focused on the Nashua Millyard and its interaction with the Broad Street Parkway. The Call for Entries can be found at – http://www.
“This is an exciting time in Nashua’s development as the Broad Street Parkway comes to fruition,” said Mayor Donnalee Lozeau. “I will be interested in seeing the finalists’ entries. The designer whose concept is selected could potentially have a long term visual impact on this community. Many thanks to the jury for their continuing efforts in coordinating this competition.”
The Jury is soliciting entries from professional landscape architects, architects, planners, urban designers, and other design professionals as well as students of design. Submissions are to focus on the interaction the Broad Street Parkway has with the currently underutilized properties in the Nashua Millyard. The competition is also calling for design solutions for the intersection of the Parkway and Ledge, Pine, and Central Streets. “The marriage between this dense urban area and the Broad Street Parkway is of particular importance to the Jury,” said Jury Chairman Tim Nickerson, ASLA.
“Nashua will be at the forefront of the international design community with the release of this design competition. By having all the pertinent information available on our web site, I would not be surprised to see submissions from around the globe for this important project. As a landscape architect and someone interested in urban design and redevelopment, it is projects like this design competition that make me passionate about how a properly designed space can improve a community and people’s lives”, said Nickerson.
“In order for the Broad Street Parkway, and in general Nashua, to be successful, we need public involvement in the process. This is one more way to get the public involved,” said Nickerson. The jury will review the initial submissions and pare the list down to approximately 10. From there, the finalists will be on display for the public to provide their feedback on the proposals. This is scheduled for mid-February with a winner to be selected by mid-March.
People interested in the competition are directed to visit the NIDC Facebook page or its web site at www.NashuaDesignCompetition.
