PINarchitecture is an open monthly competition for designers who have a desire to exercise design skills and communicate original ideas. Submissions are both small and digital to give busy designers an opportunity to participate without the time commitment of a standard competition. There is no fee to participate. The first place winner will receive a poster containing the top 10 submissions of the month.
April Brief / The Negative Space :
Architecture exerts itself upon the landscape, dominating both visual and physical space. Masses extended horizontally and vertically upon the surface of a site are essentially acts of addition. What might an architecture of subtraction be? How might a space be conceived of differently when carved directly into the earth itself, without space or structure above the absolute level of zero? How might a negative space differ from an additive one?
Participants are asked to limit all structure and space to below ground level, meaning absolutely no extensions above grade. Submissions may be technical, conceptual, practical, and/or artistic.
