How can the natural attributes of wood commonly seen as disadvantages, be re-imagined as assets to create novel, sustainable products?
The Re-Imagining Wood Challenge is an online collaborative event that will take place over a ten week period. Participants from a variety of backgrounds and expertise are invited to work together to re-imagine how attributes that are commonly seen as disadvantages of wood might be re-framed as assets to create novel, sustainable products. Imagine if wood’s ability to biodegrade, expand and contract or char were reframed as attributes to be designed in, rather than engineered out?
If you have an interest in the built environment, renewable materials or design, your input would be valued in this challenge. Experts are welcome as are enthusiasts. You can participate a little or a lot, either way you are sure to learn something new, stretch your creativity and make connections. In addition, there is $5000 CDN worth of prize money for the best collaborators and concepts.
The challenge will run from January 28th, 2013 until April 5th, 2013. If you are intrigued by the concept of collaborative wood innovation but this challenge is not of interest or the timing doesn’t work, sign up for the community and be notified of future projects.
The concepts generated in this challenge will be used to spark further R&D and
ultimately, to help bring the world closer to a renewable built environment of the future.
