Register/Submit Deadline:  Thursday, Nov 1, 20126:59 AMEDT

UPDATE: *DUE TO OVERWHELMING RESPONSES, THE CALL FOR SUBMISSION IS NOW OPEN TO EVERYONE.

rev·e·nant: 1827, from Fr. revenant, prp. of revenir “to return”; disembodied spirit of a dead person is attested and returns toward its ancient sense.

PROLOGUE

In the aftermath of advancement in digital computation* and the emergence of ubiquitous media**, data has usurped ideas’ as the epoch of treatise within contemporary architectural discourse; sterile research and indifferent analysis of data, i.e. diagrams and renders, have trumped the self-critical thesis and allegorical expression of ideas; software has replaced the authorship, computation has replaced the narrative.

What were the consequences of Architect’s naive and hasty embrace of new technology and media, if not the ubiquity of endless data?

If not the death of ideas?

CALL FOR SUBMISSION

‘Revenant: The Undeath of Ideas in Architecture, calls for young architects and recent graduates to participate in the production and exhibition of self-critical work that reflects the primacy of ‘ideas’ in architectural and urban project, rationalized through introspective, allegorical and/or narrative means.

Utopian, subversive, and/or vanguard proposals are highly encouraged.

The exhibition is an introduction to series of exhibition and publications‡ in an effort to re-recognize and re-commiserate the legacy of ideas as the lexicon of avant-garde in architecture and urbanism. The exhibition’s goal is to critically examine and protest the trend toward marginalization and lost of avant-garde and utopian ideas in contemporary architectural discourse, particularly in architectural practice and architectural education.
