The main objective of “Solar Park South” international competition was to stimulate concrete ideas and revolutionary proposals for the reuse of the soon to be decommissioned highway sections between Scilla and Bagnara located on the south region of the Italian territory. This competition counted with the participation of 480 groups from 73 nations Worldwide, were the third place was given to a us, a group of Colombian architects, Jaramillo/Azuero Arquitectos, conformed by Daniel Azuero, Tomas Jaramillo, Juan Jaramillo and Andres Gutierrez the Latin-American quota of the winner podium.
Participants were invited to develop their ideas-projects starting from the Basic proposal to the creation of a space for testing the production of energy using renewable sources, the search for and successive application of new sustainable technologies, and the implementation of measures focused on integrating the Park within the surrounding territory through the upgrading, fruition and valorization of the landscape. This project had to take into account the pre existing infrastructure at the site , as this road Spreads 10km through the mountains thanks to a set of elegant viaducts designed by modern Italian architects Nervi, Zorzi y Morandi, were proposing a new use for this elements is the primordial action over the site.
