The Chain of Eco-Homes Competition

At 9:45PM on May 4th, 2007: an EF5 tornado leveled the rural town of Greensburg, Kansas.

Just Days After the Storm: the community came together and decided to rebuild sustainably, striving to become a model green town for the future. Ever since this landmark commitment was made, Greensburg GreenTown—a grassroots community -based organization—has worked side-by-side with city and county officials, business owners and local residents to incorporate sustainable principles into their rebuilding process.

Now: Greensburg GreenTown and their partner FreeGreen are calling on all architects and designers to compete for an opportunity to design sustainable, green homes in this town! This contest is the first of its kind, with the competitors’ entries helping to create lodging for Eco-Tourist visitors, a new standard for affordable green homes, and innovations around the use of disaster resistant residential wall systems. Please us rebuild this wonderful community.

First Prize:  $10,000 in Cash, Assistance in Developing Final Construction Documents, and the Right to Be Built as One of the Chain of Eco-Homes.

Two Runners Up:  $1,000 in Cash, Assistance in Developing Final Construction Documents, and the Right to Be Built as One of the Chain of Eco-Homes.
