DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES: NOVEMBER 14, 2008

Our world is under more ecological stress due to human agency than at any time in human history. Climate change is real, and threatens the lives of millions, and the quality of life of billions. The glory days of cheap energy are drawing to a close, while society’s power demands are growing faster than ever.

The good news is that humanity has never been better equipped to muster its collective knowledge against a threat. Global average education level is higher than it has ever been. Advances in information technology mean that everyone can share their knowledge with everyone else. The time is ripe for solutions – maybe all that’s needed is a catalyst to start things working.

The Earth Awards is a global search for future-crucial design solutions that will improve our collective social, cultural, economic and ecological quality of life. Submissions will be accepted in multiple cat egories: product design, architecture, fashion, food, alternative energy, and more.

Submissions should focus on reducing adverse human impacts on the environment, and human energy needs.  Submissions must also be achievable, scalable, practical, collaborative, inclusive, and original.

Submissions will be reviewed by some of the 21st century’s most influential thinkers: designers, architects, philosophers, scientists, economists, activists, environmentalists, and entrepreneurs.

Up to ten finalists will be flown to New York City for an Awards Ceremony Gala on December 7, 2008, where the first prize winner will be announced. The winner will receive a monetary prize, and all finalists will receive the op portunity to pitch their ideas to industry leaders, including venture capitalists, industrialists, and Fortune 500 business leaders.

The deadline for entries is midnight (Eastern time) on November 14, 2008.
