This year’s competition is to design housing units and a public space in the new Pier 70 area of San Francisco. These spaces should be complemented by adjacent outdoor space that engages both the residents of the housing on site and in the surrounding neighborhood.
The site for this competition will be a portion approximately 2 ½ acres of the overall 64 acre Pier 70 redevelopment area. However, for the surrounding context teams can envision the development of Pier 70 as they see fit. The northern edge of the site on the corner of Illinois Street and 20th Street is one block from the 3rd and 20th St MUNI station and the southern end of the site is 6 blocks from the 22nd St Caltrain station.
