The term “charette” evolved from a pre 1900’s exercise at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in France. Architectural students were given a design problem to solve within an alloted time. When that time was up, the students would rush their drawings form the studio to the Ecole in a cart to finish drawings on the way. the term evolved to refer to the intense design exercise itself. today it refers to a creative process akin to visual brain storming that is used by design professionals to develop solutions to a design problem within a limited time frame.
The Young Architects Forum (YAF) is announcing the second annual 48 Hour design competition. open to all Students, Designers, and Architects up to 10 years of licensure. the purpose of this competition is to provide a venue for designers and architects to showcase their ability, and to illustrate the value of good design to the greater public.
