The Bat-Yam Biennale of Landscape Urbanism proudly presents:
72 Hour Urban Action
The world's first real-time architecture competition
10 Teams | 10 Missions | 10 Sites
1 City | 1 Street | 1 Prize
An extreme deadline, a tight budget, and a limited space to answer and resolve local community needs and leave a lasting impact on the city's urban fabric.
The international teams are comprised of 122 individuals - architects, designers, artists, craftspeople and students, from Israel, U.S.A, Australia, France, Morocco, Austria, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Taiwan, Lithuania, Russia, Poland, Germany, Turkey, Italy, Bulgaria, Spain and South Korea.
All participants will live together on site, in an elementary school converted into a sleep/work center. They will be battling the clock, the restrictive conditions and each other, to envision and realize projects in response to the spatial and social challenges the sites offer.
In the style of guerrilla activism, teams will have three days and three nights to plan and realize their projects in response to assigned missions. Teams will receive a budget for materials, a central prefabrication camp, a team of 'Angels' (construction and safety engineers) and a truck (!).
An international jury will select the team to win the first prize:
Shlomo Lahiani - Mayor of Bat-Yam
Glenn Weiss - Manager of Public Art in Times Square, NYC
Sarah Gaventa - Head of Public Space at CABE, London
Doron Rabina - Head of HaMidrasha School of Art
Prof. Yael Moria-Klain - Co-Curator, Bat-Yam Biennale of Landscape Urbanism
We invite all media and press to join us on site for the three days of the competition.
Takeoff on Biennale Launch, September 25th, 2010
Conclusion and announcement of winning team – September 28th, 2010
