Art of Urban Environments Festival

Air • Water • Earth • Energy

CALL FOR ENTRIES NOW OPEN!

DEADLINE FOR QUESTIONS HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO NOVEMBER 30, 2010

The Art of Urban Environments Festival celebrates how the arts are a positive force in the economic and creative life of communities. Organized by Lafayette College and the City of Easton, located in eastern Pennsylvania, the Art of Urban Environments Festival is an international event recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts with major support. It is one of 21 projects that are part of a year-long celebration of the Mayors’ Institute on City Design 25th Anniversary – the only institution of higher education and the smallest city to be so honored.

The Festival is organized around two major events: an international competition and a calendar of arts-related events.

  • Competition

The international, national, and regional design community – including, but not limited to, artists of all disciplines, architects, landscape architects, engineers, and film makers – are invited to submit unique and engaging proposals for installations and performances that engage places of nature, art, and culture in transforming the post-industrial American City.  Entrants are encouraged to collaborate with individuals outside their disciplines. Partnering with schools, community groups, or arts organizations is also encouraged. College students in the last year of design related programs of study are also eligible to apply. The selection jury is composed of residents, artists, experts, and community leaders and chaired by Dr. H. Ellis Finger, director of Lafayette College’s Williams Center for the Arts. Lucienne Di Biase Dooley, architect, is the Festival’s organizing curator.

As a result of the competition, a selection committee will select up to 16 site-specific installations.
