Open Architectural Competition (Preliminary Design)
Outline: Redesign of an existing building into the Archaeological Thematic Museum of Piraeus and Regeneration of part of the Piraeus Port Authority (PPA) land area - transformation into a public open air space and into a park with closed parking space underneath.
Task:
The Open Architectural Competition is placed within the general strategy of the Piraeus Port Authority (PPA) on the reformation of the port as a Gate for Culture and Tourism and its opening towards the city for the direct communication of the residents of the neighboring areas with the sea. This policy was expressed through the decision to create the Cultural Coast within the coastal zone of the PPA.
The Competition aims to create:
- An important and unique Archaeological Thematic Museum for Piraeus and its port.
- A communal open space and park which, along with the open-air public space south of Kekropos av., which is underway, will form an urban public park of capital importance, a pole of attraction which will connect the Municipalities of Keratsini – Drapetsona and Piraeus with the Port and the sea.
- A connection between Museum – Archaeological site through the partial pedestrianisation of Kanari Street and the formation of a one-way street for the remaining part, in contact with the archaeological site.
- A closed parking space, under the park area, with a maximum capacity of 250 car parking space
