The Sustainable Design Competition of the Delaware Valley Green Building Council has partnered with the Philadelphia Parks and Recreation Department to re-imagine an existing urban recreation center.

Four Philadelphia sites were chosen that each need repair, are easily accessible via mass transit, and provide opportunities for energy efficiency improvements. Competing teams are asked to use adaptive reuse strategies and analysis to design their vision of what a recreation center can be for the community. Teams are also asked to emphasize one of the following;

  • Energy efficiency and conservation efforts
  • Stormwater management on the site and other sustainable landscaping features
  • Community outreach and education programs integrating the site specific connection

First place award is $1,500 cash prize. Separate awards for students and emerging professionals, other awards are available as well.
