How will the best water works look like? That’s the challenge that will be put to ten teams of high school students in the 2015 Iron Designer Challenge, a fund-raising event for the Urban Assembly School of Design and Construction. Projects will be built in front of a live audience and judged by acclaimed architects, engineers and contractors, at the School of Design and Construction on June 4, 2015. One team will emerge as New York’s 6th Iron Designer. Structural Ingenuity and Best Use of a “Secret Material” will also be awarded, as well as the audience’s People’s Choice Award. The event is open to the public, and guests will enjoy live music, appetizers, and a chance to mingle with industry leaders, students, and participate in a silent auction that supports the nonprofit Urban Assembly School. ABOUT THE URBAN ASSEMBLY Founded in 2004, the Urban Assembly School of Design and Construction is an “A” rated, unscreened, college preparatory high school with an integrated curriculum focused on architecture, engineering, design, and construction.
