50 Years of London Architecture 1960 - 2010

Friday, Jul 22, 20115 PM — Friday, Aug 26, 20111 AMEDT

Ambika P3, University of Westminster, 35 Marylebone Road London, UK | Ambika P3, University of Westminster, 35 Marylebone Road London, UK

By popular demand The Architecture Club is reprising the very successful 50 Years of London Architecture exhibition. It will occupy the vast and extraordinary Ambika P3 space beneath the University of Westminster. The exhibition presents a spectacular cross section of London’s new architecture since 1960. Over three hundred and fifty large scale photographs present a unique and thought provoking overview of the city’s rich and varied architecture. Visitors can reflect on the extraordinary range and creativity on show and consider how well British architects have served London over the last fifty ONE years - there will be additional panels to include buildings completed during the last twelve months. Ambika P3 is a 14,000 square foot subterranean space in central London, converted from the vast former concrete construction hall for the University of Westminster’s School of Engineering. Many of the original industrial features have been retained in the dramatic space. The exhibition will open on 22 July 2011 and will run for five weeks. The Architecture Club will be organising lectures and discussions around the content of the show during August. The first discussion will taking place on 26th July. Professor Alan Powers and John Miller CBE will discuss the Art of Elevation and whether every new street elevation will be less interesting than the one it replaces.
