A.UD LECTURE SERIES | EARL GALES MONDAY, APRIL 14, 2014 Reception at 5:45pm / Lecture at 6:30pm Perloff Hall DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI LECTURE 2013-2014 EARL GALES Chairman and CEO, Jenkins/Gales & Martinez, Inc Mr. Gales has more than 30 years of experience in Urban Design, Architecture, Development, Planning and Construction Management. For the past twenty years he has been responsible for project management and overall operations of the firm. His responsibilities include new business development, architectural design, contract negotiations, staffing, client liaison, subcontract administrations and other administrative duties. Mr. Gales had been published widely on the delivery of planning and design services to public sector clients. Mr. Gales has extensive experience in large urban and regional development that incorporates major medical, large transit, industrial, municipal and a variety of renovation projects having designed and participated in over 30 major projects in California and Arizona. His graduate thesis at UCLA (An Integrated Rail Network for Metropolitan Los Angeles , c. 1978) formed one of the critical documents in the Federal funding package for the Los Angeles Metro Rail System. Other projects have included three shopping centers, 2 of which are in the Metro Los Angeles area. Mr. Gales has held a principal role in the development of a comprehensive expansion program for the Compton Community College including several buildings currently under development at the campus. Mr. Gales has also been responsible for a number of redevelopment plans for the City of Compton. These revitalization strategies have included comprehensive financial feasibility and market-based studies, as well as, urban and architectural design strategies. The UCLA Department of Architecture and Urban Design Distinguished Alumni Lecture series features renowned graduates whose innovation and accomplishments have significantly impacted the field of architecture and or urban design.
