Lecture Series Title: THINK MAKE: Exploring the Art of Craft in Architecture and Design
As part of our ongoing mission to promote a dialogue within the local design community, we are pleased to announce this year’s series will investigate CRAFT.
The notion of craft reaches beyond manual dexterity; it is a purposeful attitude towards the task at hand. It is the pursuit of things well-made and fully-informed. Whether something is hand-built or digitally fabricated, craftsmanship is nothing without an appreciation for materiality, process and technique. Through the act of thinking, making, and experimenting, new discoveries are made about form, shape, and function. In architecture, craft is as relevant to the design process as it is to the product. Ideas are tested, pushed, and refined; questions are raised and answered through dialogue and exploration about an idea that informs the final realization of a product.
Kicking off our lecture series this year is Peter Gluck of Peter Gluck and Partners. Peter, has been an outspoken proponent for the Architect-Led Design-Build (AL/DB) methodology. Peter deviates from traditional methods of design and construction with the goal of fixing the broken process.
