FROM ART STUDIO TO TABLETOP FURNITURE, SMALL PROJECTS TO TAKE CENTER STAGE AT AIA CHICAGO “SMALL PROJECTS” AWARDS ON FRIDAY, MAY 3 Evening awards event at Architectural Artifacts spotlights firms with fewer than ten architects designing highly imaginative commercial, residential and “small object” projects Great architecture is about creating exceptional space, whether the project is as large as a skyscraper or as small as a kitchen. The American Institute of Architects Chicago (AIA Chicago), which counts 3,000-plus architect members working in Chicagoland, announced today that it will unveil the 2013 Small Projects Awards winners on Friday, May 3 from 5:30 to 8:30 at Architectural Artifacts, 4325 N. Ravenswood Avenue, Chicago. The goal of this, the third annual event, is to raise public awareness of the value that architects bring to small projects and to promote small architectural firms as a resource for design excellence. “Big ideas and transformational spaces come from creative people, and those people are at firms small and large,” says Zurich Esposito, Executive Vice President of AIA Chicago. “The Small Projects Awards reward that innovative thinking that works on a smaller scale.” Entry to the Small Projects Awards is FREE. You can RSVP at aiachicago.org/spa.asp. Architectural Artifacts is located in Chicago’s historic Ravenswood neighborhood, just one block east of the Montrose stop on the CTA Brown Line and four blocks south of the Lawrence Avenue stop on the Metra Line. The winners will be announced at the event, and range from penthouse apartments to ultra-cool office spaces to historic property transformations to Dada-esque tables. A reception and exhibition of projects will follow the awards ceremony.
