AIAS FORUM 2012

Saturday, Dec 29, 20128 AM — Tuesday, Jan 1, 20138 AMEDT

Savannah, GA | Savannah, GA

image Hundreds of the nation’s best and brightest architecture students are converging on beautiful historic downtown Savannah, Ga., Dec. 29-Jan. 1 for the AIAS FORUM 2012. Will you be one of them? Join the nation’s top architecture students, faculty and professionals as you experience one-of-a-kind tours, workshops, panel discussions, and networking opportunities that you won’t get anywhere else. This year’s AIAS FORUM, hosted by the Savannah College of Art and Design, the most comprehensive art and design university in the nation, offers the following can’t-miss events: - Reimagining Historic Architecture - Savannah is home to the nation’s largest National Historic Landmark District, offering nearly unlimited architectural styles and expressions. Experience architecture from the 17th to 21st centuries and learn about the city’s most imaginative adaptive new uses of historic buildings with this tour led by SCAD faculty. - Behind-the-scenes Tour of the SCAD Museum of Art - Get an exclusive tour of one of the world’s most highly lauded new contemporary art museums, featured by Travel + Leisure, Architect magazine and CNN, among others. Completed in October 2011, the SCAD Museum is a dramatic preservation project that merges the only surviving antebellum railroad complex in the country with modern design elements. Meet the architect behind the project to learn how new life was breathed into the ruins of this National Historic Landmark. - Responding to the Oglethorpe Plan - Join this interactive walking tour of one of the country’s most influential urban designs, the Oglethorpe Plan. Noted architect and educator Edmund Bacon said that the plan is “so exalted that it remains as one of the finest diagrams for city organization and growth in existence.” - New Year’s Eve Beaux Arts Ball - Celebrate the ushering in of a new year in the nation’s oldest planned city. Revelers can enjoy incredible artwork at the SCAD Museum of Art and relax under the stars in the museum’s spectacular outdoor spaces. Internationally renowned architect Antoine Predock will serve as the event's keynote speaker. A son of the expansive desert Southwest, Predock is known for a design aesthetic that honors the surrounding physical environment, creating a symbiotic relationship among the client, building and natural world. His projects span a diversity of styles and uses, from the famed Turtle Creek House in Dallas, Texas, to Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres Major League Baseball team.
