Japanese Master Potter Akio Nukaga returns to Heath San Francisco for a special showcase of his latest work, made specially for this show. If you’re a long-time fan, see the evolution of his glazes and shapes. If you’re new to Akio’s work, experience the all-too-rare combination of sublime craft married with extraordinary design that marks this acclaimed potter’s creations. Accompanying Akio’s ceramic work are items by Akio’s friends in Japan. See new sculptural and functional work in wood from Hideki Takayama (“Taka”), along with versatile, hand-dyed Japanese cotton cloths – known as tenugui. Make a weekend of it: celebrate craft and design with an opening reception on July 11; watch Akio in a throwing demonstration on July 12 at 11 am, and participate in a wooden spoon workshop by Taka at 2 pm.
