Archi-Film Mashup I Saturday, April 16, 2011 4:30pm screening & presentations || 5:30pm workshop 3rd Ward || 195 Morgan Avenue, Brooklyn, NY Presenters: John Szot of Brooklyn Foundry | Evan Tribus of p*g5ive | Richard Joon Yoo of h-a-h-a We are pleased to invite you to the first event of Archi-Film Mashups, a 3-part series of multimedia screenings, lectures & workshops presented with Superfront-NY and hosted by 3rd Ward during the spring 2011 season. The series will investigate the overlap and cross-breeding of architecture and mass media, as defined by the designers presenting their own work alongside moving images. Mashup 1 presenters include John Szot of Brooklyn Digital Foundry (http://www.brooklynfoundry.com/), Evan Tribus of p*g5ive (http://www.pressg5.net/), and Richard Joon Yoo of h-a-h-a (http://www.h-a-h-a.us/). Within the urban sphere especially, mass media is no longer an image on a single screen in our direct vision. Rather, it has permeated our everyday lives in a way that we often no longer question, encouraging architects and other designers of space to engage with this element. This dense image fog lies somewhere between the 2d image and the 3d physical space, embedded with time and sequencing. Images are altering the physical structure of the urban environment just as the environment continues to alter the moving image through its physical limitations and armatures. The Archi-Film Mashups events will begin with a round of quick-fire-style video/slideshow presentations by three architects / designers. Each participant will be given 20 minutes to pair a film/video/animation clip with a self-made design, art, architecture, or research study project. Following the presentations, there will be a 1-1.5hr workshop during which we will collectively experiment with the arch-film mashup theme using stop motion animation as our medium. The focus will be on exploring various spatial ideas of the presentations through drawing and making with the designers, making the activities approachable and fun to all levels (rather than creating a professional animation, because of course we only have one hour!) Each event will also have at least one resident professional filmmaker on hand for any technical assistance needed in guiding the groups through the experimental explorations and arch-film mash-ups. At the end of the 3-part series, all of these small pro jects & documentation of the events will be compiled into a post-catalogue dvd booklet. RSVP for screenings & presentations at www.3rdward.com/rsvp. If you would like to participate in the workshop, please also RSVP to [email protected].
