Architecture Days in Moscow 2012

The sixth «Architecture Days in Moscow» festival will take place from 6 till 14 October 2012 in Russian capital. The festival is organized by the Agency P-Arch and it will be timed to the World Day of Architecture. The “Days of Architecture in Moscow” — a unique festival presenting «alive» architecture and the whole city will become a platform for it. The «Days of Architecture in Moscow» festival aims to increase public interest in the achievements, problems and sources of architecture, also to make a presentation and interpretation of modern and historic architecture. The festival is supported by the Union of Moscow Architects and Moscow’s chief architect Sergei Kuznetsov. Official partner of the festival — RGI International, partners – ABD architects and “Afanasievsky” club house. The «Days of Architecture» does not oppose to new and old architecture, we are trying to understand our cities in all their diversity. As part of the «Days of Architecture» developers, architects, heritage defenders, ethnographers and informal associations will meet on the same stage. The festival will organize pedestrian, bus and bike architecture tours to show the old and the new architecture; also it will provide visits to architectural studios. Most of them will be for free.»Days of Architecture in Moscow» is part of the «Days of Architecture in Russia» which is a network project; it brings together independent architectural festivals across Russia — in Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Vologda, Rostov-on-Don and Yekaterinburg. Agency P-Arch Director and curator of “Architecture Days in Moscow” Alexander Zmeul, says: «This year the festival returned to the cultural life of Moscow after a two year break. We have tried to prepare not only an interesting program, also to show, in our opinion, an important theme. Not coincidentally, the central project of Days will be a series of «Freedom of Access» tours Architecture Goes Public about the public buildings and spaces created in Moscow over the past decade. We are pleased at the support of the festival not only by architects, but by real estate companies too. This year, the festival’s strategic partner is RGI International, which consequentially engages the best Russian architects for the implementation of their projects”. As part of the festival «Days of Architecture in Moscow» the traditional pedestrian, bus and bike tours, which are dedicated to the old and new architecture, will be organized. In concert with our strategic partner RGI International there will be a walking tour across the «Golden Mile» — Butikovskiy and Molocnii lanes, which are the present reserve of modern architecture. Club house Afanasievsky will present pedestrian tour “Five centuries of Moscow housing”. Different types of Moscow housing from 17-centuries chamber to modern housing located in historical neighborhoods of Moscow – between Prechistenka and Arbat will be presented at the tour. There will also be organized bus tours — «Fresh Ten» (ten new buildings), «Architecture to the people» (public buildings and spaces), and «Portfolio: ABD architects” will present objects created ABD architects — one of the Moscow leading architectural offices. Also the festival will include a presentation of MARCH architectural school and international non-governmental organization DOCOMOMO that will present a series of events which are dedicated to Soviet architecture. Also, there will also be visits to architectural studios where in an informal atmosphere people can communicate with those who create the image of our city.
