“The Making of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction” by Walter Benjamin is a pivotal essay in the history of visual arts. His question of art in the 20th Century as original object was instrumental to a palpable modernist movement.

Similarly, the position of [ARCHITECTURE] in the age of [DIGITAL] reproduction creates opportunities for the evolving practice of architecture. This conference seeks design projects and papers that explore technology as a medium of change. What and how is technology being used in architecture as object/space? Does the use of technology challenge our notions of authorship? Can artists and architects collaborate using technology as a material for making?

Keynote Speakers:
Bill Massie, Cranbrook Academy of Art;
Ken Kaplan and Ted Kruger, Columbia University and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

Conference Co-Chairs:
Erik M. Hemingway, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign
Allison Warren, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign
