Archtober 2013
Where:  New York, NY
When:   Wednesday, October 02, 2013 - Friday, November 01, 2013

The Center for Architecture and the American Institute of Architects New York Chapter (AIANY) are delighted to announce that Archtober (ärk’tōbər) will be back in 2013! The third annual city-wide festival of architecture activities, programs, and exhibitions will take place October 1-31, 2013.

Archtober’s curated calendar is expected to feature more than 150 architecture and design lectures, conferences, programs, and exhibitions happening at the Center for Architecture and collaborating institutions across the city.

One of the festival’s distinctive features is the breadth of its collaborating organizations, and many are returning for 2013. They range from established institutions like the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and The Museum of Arts and Design, to start-ups like the Institute for Public Architecture and the Brooklyn Navy Yard Center at BLDG 92. This diversity captures the unique spirit of New York’s design world. 40 institutions are participating so far, with more expected to come on board throughout the summer. Organizations include:

AIA New York Chapter; American Society of Interior Designers New York Metro; Architecture & Design Film Festival; Architecture for Humanity New York; Associates of the Art Commission; Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture, The City College of New York; Brooklyn Bridge Park; Brooklyn Historical Society; Brooklyn Navy Yard Center at BLDG 92; Center for Architecture Foundation; City Modern; CNU New York; Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum; The Irwin S. Media Sponsors Dwell and New York Magazine are also returning this year. World Architecture News will bring World Architecture Day to New York City this year—mark your calendars for Archtober 7, 2013, at the Center for Architecture.

Pentagram has designed Archtober’s branding and visual identity again this year, which includes the printed guide, website, and Archtober Lounge.

The popular “Building of the Day” series is reprised for 2013. Architects and other design professionals will lead the noontime tours, which will include contemporary buildings and historic sites. Special tours this year will feature synergies of food and architecture, global firms in New York, and building anniversaries.

Preliminary program and tour schedules will be available at http://www.archtober.org beginning July 1, 2013, and will be continuously updated as new programs are announced. Many events are free; individual pricing and ticketing information is available on each organization’s website. Printed guides will be distributed at the Archtober Lounge at the Center for Architecture and participating institutions during the festival.
