The Architectural League of New York will hold its annual Beaux Arts Ball on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Weylin B. Seymour’s in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Craft, the theme of this year’s Ball will celebrate the importance of artisanship and the concert of allied disciplines in creating great works of architecture. The Ball will take place at Weylin B. Seymourʼs, which is located in an 1875 George B. Post and Peter B. Wight designed former Williamsburgh Savings Bank. Its exuberant interior decorations of tiling and mosaics, patterned wallpapers, frescoed domes, carved wood and stone, and bronze and gilt work, recently magnificently restored, will serve as inspiration for nine architects and designers, who with Nuit Blanche New York will project digital interpretations of its motifs and details on the interior of the buildingʼs central domed space. The projections will seek to highlight the “craft” embedded in the buildingʼs design and its careful stewardship. In advance of the Ball, The Architectural League has interviewed the team of artisans and consultants who worked on the buildingʼs restoration and will release a series of digital features and photographic essays further. Since the Leagueʼs revival of the event in 1990, the Beaux Arts Ball has become the premier annual party of the architecture and design community in New York with over 1,000 architects, designers, artists, and their friends attending. Located each year at a different venue of architectural importance somewhere in the five boroughs of New York, the Ball hosts installations, performances, or other engagements with designers and artists. The Beaux Arts Ball helps support the programs of The Architectural League. BEAUX ARTS BALL 2014: CRAFT Saturday, September 20, 2014 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Weylin B.
