FREE ADMISSION – RSVP thru http://cfa.aiany.org/index.php?section=calendar&evtid=8075 Wine and hors d’oeuvres reception WHEN: Wednesday, March 18th - 6:30pm to 8:30pm WHERE: Center for Architecture - AIANY, 536 LaGuardia Place, New York, NY WHAT: BIG DREAMS A moderated panel discussion on notions of the Master Plan. Developers, urban planners, sociologists and architects work together in re-shaping large portions of cities or creating new ones each for a different goal but all through a common process: the master plan. This road-map to a better future can be a lifetime in its execution and affect millions of lives. How do the roles of the players shift according to the context – ranging from that of developing countries, expanding cities and intervention within established urban fabric? What are ways in which the master plan can redeem ailing conditions, prepare for growth and drive an economy? How is the position of the architect defined from within and from without. WHO: MODERATOR: Diane Lewis, FAAR – Principal at Diane Lewis Architects / Professor at The Cooper Union SPEAKERS Michael Samuelian, AIA, AICP - Vice President at the Related Companies Adam Lubinsky, AICP , PhD - Managing Principal at WXY Studio Jennifer Pehr, AICP - Associate Principal at KPF Eliott Sclar - Professor at the GSAPP, Columbia University about Global Dialogues ‘s 2015 theme: ARCHITECT, d.b.a. In a world of specialization, how does a profession based on a broad cross disciplinary foundation define itself? AIANY Global Dialogues 2015 will focus on initiatives affecting the global built environment from points of view at the periphery of practice. We will look at fields outside the normative that stretch the definition and purpose of the architect around the world as well as ways in which architecture can become a means for a goal beyond itself.
