Organized by the History, Theory, and Criticism of Architecture and Art at MIT with the generous support of the Lipstadt-Stieber Fund.

Chavoya will examine the influence of art collective Asco’s urban interventions and conceptual art practices on the work of LA-based artists, focusing particularly on the mobilization and performance of muralism and graffiti.

C. Ondine Chavoya is Associate Professor in the Art Department and Latino Studies Program at Williams College in Williamstown, MA. In addition to curating exhibitions for the Williams Museum of Art, Chavoya has contributed writings on art and urban space in Southern California to numerous books and journals.
