Medley of Presentations, Conversations and Performances Friday, December 12 7:30pm—10:00pm The New School, John L. Tishman Auditorium 63 Fifth Avenue, Room U100 New York, New York Like many great places, New York is a city of cities: It is constantly in flux, its population ever-changing. Each day over one and a half million workers commute into Manhattan, and of New Yorkers, one in three is foreign born. In a medley of music, conversation, and performance we’ll reflect on New York’s pulsating population, exploring both the conditions that shape its tidal surges and the personal narratives that result from increased mobility and migration. Performances by: Author Yelena Akhtiorskaya, architect Teddy Cruz, comedian Hari Kondalobu, WNYC Talkshow Host Brain Lehrer, and American Balkan brass/jazz band, Slavic Soul Party, and more. Presented with The New School for Social Research’s Zolberg Institute for Migration and Mobility http://www.vanalen.org/elsewhere/events/city-of-cities/ This event is part of a week of public programs that kick off Van Alen Institute’s “Elsewhere: Escape and the Urban Landscape,” a multi-year inquiry that will explore the experience of escape in the urban environment.
