The 2013 Conversations in Place series will kick-off on at the historic Rancho Los Alamitos on Sunday, June 23, 2013 from 1:30-4:00 p.m with a program titled “The Nature of Place: From the Rancho to the New Urban Scene – When Ordinary Becomes Extraordinary,” which will examine the value of ordinary places within a region defined by iconic, extraordinary imagery. For this discussion, speaker Christopher Hawthorne, the acclaimed architectural critic for the Los Angeles Times, will address the topic in conversation with D.J. Waldie, renowned author, historian, and cultural commentator. They will be joined by distinguished panelists including Greg Goldin, architectural critic at Los Angeles Magazine, as well as Alan Pullman, founding senior principal and Michael Bohn, principal and design director, of the firm Studio One Eleven, a division of the international Perkowitz+Ruth Architects.
