image Thursday April 4th, 7 PM @ REVERSE: Crisis as Calling Talk Series: Artist Anita Glesta DESIGNCIRCUIT and REVERSE and will host a series of talks in conjunction with the Crisis As Calling competition, which solicits innovative, design-based solutions to situations or conditions caused by crisis. Submit your proposal here. On April 4th we will host our first talk in the series with Crisis is Calling jury panelist Anita Glesta, a Brooklyn-based artist and professor at SVA. Glesta’s latest public installation, Watershed, addresses our city’s relationship to climate change and will premiere at the foot of the Manhattan Bridge in May 2013. For more information click here. Crisis as Calling Design Competition Crisis as an event implies a breakdown, and the collective response is typified by the attempt to return to "normal." Typically, Crisis inspires responsive design, or design-based solutions that restore the post-Crisis conditions to their pre-Crisis state. Seldom is the question seriously pursued that asks if the "normal" course is indeed worth returning to. We see this as more than an opportunity for responsive design; we see this as a calling for an expanded role for the design community, and we seek to explore uncharted courses to reveal innovative models for engagement, action, and implementation.
