Ron Finley (http://ronfinley.com/) grows a nourishing food culture in South Central LA's food desert by planting the seeds and tools for healthy eating. Finley's vision for a healthy, accessible food forest started with the curbside veggie garden he planted in the strip of dirt in front of his own house. When the city tried to shut it down, Finley's fight gave voice to a larger movement that provides nourishment, empowerment, education - and healthy, hopeful futures - one urban garden at a time. Since then, he has been featured on the TED Talks stage and numerous publications to promote the growth of community and urban development. And for the Los Angeles Design Festival, Angelenos are invited to join this renegade gardener for a special day of creativity, placemaking, and fun! Join us at the Vermont Square Library - Los Angeles' oldest operating library - for a day full of FUN, engaging activities for all ages! Set on the acre of land surrounding the historic building, Da FUNction will feature an open air library, an edible garden and art exhibits, hands-on instruction and workshops. Yoga will start the day off and continue throughout the event. Check out on-site demonstrations of how to make mosaics, graffiti art, weaving, planting, cooking, woodworking, zumba and so much more. Listen to live music, donate to a blood drive, feast with local food trucks, and have lots of FUN, FUN, FUN! This event is free and open to the public.
