The City Museum presents Designing Better Affordable Housing, a discussion on how best to renovate and repurpose the existing buildings in New York City while bringing new sustainable development into the affordable housing market. Hear from experts with decades of experience in preservation, policy, and design, such as NYU History of Architecture Professor Jean-Louis Cohen, Phipps Houses President Adam Weinstein, and Perkins Eastman Principal Theodore Liebman. Well-designed housing and communities uplift residents, help strengthen social connections, relieve stress, and enhance a sense of safety and belonging. But, the pressures of today’s market that views buildings purely as capital, threaten the ideals of affordable housing. Join a distinguished panel of developers, architects, and professors, as they explore both ambitious and achievable ideas for public and below-market housing in New York. This program delves into the themes of our exhibition Affordable New York: A Housing Legacy. This event is co-presented with Docomomo and is also part of the Museum's Activist New York program series, made possible by the Puffin Foundation. Free for Museum members; $16 general public; $12 for students/seniors. For more information, visit Designing Better Affordable Housing WHO: Jean-Louis Cohen, Sheldon H.
