Beijing-born architect Ma Yansong, founder and principal of MAD Architects, speaks about his work and his concept of "Shanshui City," which is his vision to create a new balance between society, the city, and the environment through new forms of architecture. Ma is recognized as an important voice in the new generation of architects with projects in Asia, Europe, Canada, and the US. Works include Absolute Towers; Beijing 2050; China Wood Sculpture Museum; Harbin Cultural Island; Hutong Bubble 32; Ordos Museum; and Pingtan Art Museum. Selected as principal designer for the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Chicago, Ma is the first Chinese architect to design a cultural landmark overseas. Fast Company named Ma one of the "100 Most Creative People in Business in 2014," and he was honored as a Young Global Leader (YGL) in 2014 by the World Economic Forum. Ma is a RIBA Fellow, holds an MArch from Yale University, and is a professor at Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture.
