First Friday (Observed on the 2nd Friday of October) LOT-EK Join LOT-EK at its office for drinks, informal conversation, and a behind the scenes look at recent and upcoming projects. This program is part of First Friday, a monthly opportunity for League members to visit the offices of leading design practices to see work on the boards and learn more about the offices’ organization and design processes. These informal social gatherings feature happy hour drinks arranged by the host office. LOT-EK is a design studio based in Naples and New York. Founded in 1993 by Ada Tolla and Giuseppe Lignano, the studio has been involved in residential, commercial, and institutional projects in the United States and abroad, as well as projects for major cultural institutions and museums, including MoMA, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Guggenheim Museum, and the MAXXI in Rome. LOT-EK’s work is most recognized within the fields of architecture, design, and art for its sustainable and innovative approach to construction, materials, and space through the upcycling of existing industrial objects, such as shipping containers, and systems not originally intended for architecture. Notable works include Sanlitun North, a retail complex in Beijing; PUMA City, a transportable retail and event space installed in Tianjin, Boston, and Alicante, Spain; and Whitney Studio, an architectural installation for the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. Current projects include the Carroll House, a private residence in Brooklyn and STEELCASE, a commercial mixed-use building in Minneapolis.
